After the last professional development meeting, I left hoping that we could start up our own blogging spot for our own classroom. I know I want to, but feel slightly intimidated by setting up the site and having it not work as I had anticipated. What we might be able to do is set up a mock classroom of students. In this way we can experience and practice all the aspects of running a classroom that blogs. We could start by setting up accounts and go all the way through turning in and commenting on student projects. I know it won’t happen in one session but I would like to know as much as I can before I set up the computer lab in my room.
Also, the meeting was great. We definitely needed to have the open forum we did so that we could talk about the pros and cons of the whole thing.

Thanks Javi!

I like the idea of a mock classroom. Maybe we could create the Social Awareness Site as well. Next week's lesson is basically going to be setting up a blog and practicing with it.

I know that in my classroom, I use blogs as a way to check my students understandings of concepts and other things that we are talking about in class. Also, it helps incorporate language arts into the classroom for other content areas.

I concur!

One use of blogs might be this:
Students post a piece of writing, and then other students can review it and post constructive criticism.

I would hope blogging would create an on-line environment where students could discuss classes, field trips, and developments at school. It could also be used for weekly questions/discussions. It could also be used for for students to interact with students after class to help answer questions and concerns. I think through trial and error, we will find many uses for blogging. Our students may have ideas that we would never think of that be the best uses for blogs. You just never know.

I could use blogs in my class as a good way for students to discuss how they live the healthy habits we go over in class.

We might want to consider having a teacher -only blog where we can communicate with each other about class projects, successes , issues etc.

Someone mentioned a "teacher only" site. It hink that this site could function like that. Teacher Commons can grow into a true online community, where we can share ideas, brainstorm, talk about our experiences, post lesson plans, etc. At least, that is what I would like for it to become.

Hey I think this would be a great place to share lessons. I know that I need to do more writing in my class and I am willing to adapt any writing lessons that you all are willing to offer. Also, I am using the Social Awareness Club blogging page as a means to go beyond a mock classroom. Sometimes you just have to try the trial and error method. If you all get a chance, drop by our blogging page and email me ideas that could help improve the site or anything else. In any occasion, I will keep everyone posted.
